Note that the first part is not available, but parts 2-9 are there. I'm a little concerned dl'ing this and YouTubing (and subsequently sifting) it because the Stones have apparently sued to keep this doc unreleased since it was made it '72. Anyway, it's grainy and the audio isn't very good, but you can get a feel for the utter hedonistic bubble they lived in at the time. Parts of it are very NSFW (drugs, sex).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cocksucker_Blues

1st SiftTalk post.

- nach0s

I will be taking a leave of absence from the sift for a while. I know I haven't been on the sift too too long, but it feels big because the sift(ers) has really helped to keep my sanity during my trying times trying to lock down my masters degree.

About to join a documentary crew as a cameraman, starting up in Maine, and ending all the way down in the Keys. If you haven't guessed, the doc is about route 1. I guess they are aiming to sell it to travel or discovery (if they are lucky)... otherwise, you may see it on PBS or something within the next year (will keep you posted). After that (a month) I am going to be moving up to rochester, NY, and will be starting on an Art History PhD in the fall. Whew. it never ends.

In any case, i wish you all the best during the rest of the summer. See you soon, and keep those quality embedz flowin', kids!

- griefer_queafer

(1 comment - 393 views)
http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/digitalnation/

So this is my first post on sift talk, and I thought I would try and wait until I had something that I suspect would interest most of you. If you haven't seen it already, PBS and Frontline are putting together a pretty fascinating online series of documentaries centered around the idea that what will ultimately define our age is digital technology.

Frontline has done some docs like this one before, but this one is particularly cool because its content and its primary mode of exhibition are married.

So far they have released two "chapters." I guess they are going by country, because part one deals with Korea... specifically with video games and video game/internet addiction. The second chapter deals with America's emergent robotic military.

The other thing I wanted to bring up is actually a question for the veteran sifters and I guess Dag specifically. PBS video has embed codes; is it possible to post these? I couldn't get it to work. ;(

Cheers!

- griefer_queafer

He posts so many great documentaries it's impossible to keep up. Besides posting great vids, he has also made a great effort in *deading and fixing videos. A long time member who joined the sift back in May 2006, mauz15 has finally joined the Diamond rank.

You are greatly appreciated, mauz!

I got into a fight at Wal-Mart yesterday

(28 comments - 1195 views)
So yesterday I go over to my friendly neighborhood Wal-Mart to stock up on some 12 gauge ammunition. Mind you, I'm not bothering anyone or even talking to anyone. I make my way over to sporting goods, and some dude with his girlfriend asks me if I want a good "$@# whooping" for "looking at his girl." I tell him no, I wasn't looking at your girl (she was average at best, extra 20 pounds is a big no-no for a woman), and he proceeds to call me a liar and get in my face.

At this point, I try to walk around him to get to the sporting goods counter, but he won't let me pass. Mind you, I'm much bigger than this kid, but he wants to impress his girlfriend, who by this time is pleading for him to stop antagonizing me.

Finally I can take his abuse no longer. I hit him with a left to the body, a short right to the chin, and then kick him while he's on the ground. Security gets involved, and a crowd gathers. Kind of reminded me of this: http://www.videosift.com/video/Wal-Mart-employee-trampled-to-death

Long story short, I get off with a warning (security were gun enthusiasts like me), girlfriend goes home crying, and punk kid goes to hospital. I guess his "Yes We Can" shirt didn't help him when push came to shove.

- BillOreilly

George W has had the most difficult circumstances as President arguably since World War II. 9/11, Hurricane Katrina, Iraq, high gas prices, and a crippled economy thanks to evil corporations and Barney Frank.

And yet, we've been safe for 7 years. Iraq has lost it's brutal dictator who killed hundreds and hundreds of thousands. Gas prices are extremely low. People can still own guns, and the government isn't Communist.

Let's all take a moment to thank George W for a job well done, a job only he was man enough to accomplish. I wish he could serve another 4 years.

- BillOreilly

TED has conveniently provided a replacement link in each embed that takes you to the video page. Let's try to overhaul all of the TEDTalks on the Sift so that they don't end up in the deadpool.

While you're here, post your favourite TEDTalk (on the sift) in the comments.

- fissionchips
